Closed to Iranian passports: no entry, no transit
Visa
Since 1 April 2026 Emirates, flydubai and Etihad refuse Iranian citizens for entry to and transit through the UAE, including holders of UAE residence or visit visas; only UAE Golden Visa holders are reported exempt. The UAE government calls reports of a blanket ban inaccurate, but airlines apply it at check-in. Do not route through Dubai or Abu Dhabi on an Iranian passport.
Money and payment
Dirham. International cards everywhere.
Iranian cards do not work. Iranian exchange offices in Dubai accept rial transfers.
Transit tips
- Do not book any itinerary that connects in Dubai or Abu Dhabi on an Iranian passport; you will be refused at check-in.
- To reach the Gulf, use Muscat (SalamAir plus Oman Air) or Doha once Qatar Airways resumes; for everywhere else, Istanbul.
Onward flights
From Dubai to the whole world, but first you have to get to Dubai.
Warnings
- Iranian citizens are refused entry and transit in the UAE (airline rule since April 2026). Other passports are unaffected.
- The UAE has barred Iranian carriers and flydubai does not sell Iran.
