Muscat
The reopened route to India and Southeast Asia
OpenNo visa
Visa
Iranian passport holders need an Oman e-visa; a short transit without leaving the airport usually needs no visa. Check before travelling.
Money and payment
Omani rial (an expensive currency). International cards are common; Iranian cards do not work.
Book hotels and tickets with a foreign-currency card. Iranian agencies sell Oman tours for rials.
Transit tips
- SalamAir is back since 18 October and the return flight runs only on Sundays and Fridays; plan around those two days.
- Muscat–Tehran costs several times what it used to; if Europe is the destination, Istanbul works out cheaper.
- Muscat airport is small and quick; a 2-hour connection is enough.
Onward flights
Oman Air to London, Frankfurt and Asia; SalamAir is cheap to India, Bangkok and the Persian Gulf.
Best for
- India
- Southeast Asia
- Europe with Oman Air
Warnings
- Tehran–Dubai flights are closed; Muscat is the nearest alternative for reaching the UAE.
