Scores
- On time
- Iran Air has topped the domestic delay tables in every official month we found: 63% of its Mehrabad flights were late in Esfand 1396, 55% in Dey 1398, and in Khordad 1401 it had the longest average delay of any carrier at 138 minutes. No 1404 per-airline figures were published.
- Aircraft and comfort
- Two A330-200s and the A320 family are the comfortable part; the A300 and A310 are over 30 years old and the 13 ATR 72-600s were listed as parked in July 2026. The last published average age was 24.1 years (March 2017).
- Baggage allowance
- Domestic economy is 20 kg plus a 5 kg cabin bag; Homa Class gets 30 kg and 7 kg. International allowance depends on the fare and was not published.
- Service and food
- Full-service flag carrier with a business cabin on most jets and halal meals; no alcohol. No independent service rating exists, so this is a middle score based on the cabin product.
- Changes and refunds
- System fares follow the national cancellation penalty table that must be shown at purchase; charter seats on Iran Air flights are refunded only through the seller and often not at all.
What is good
- Istanbul and Najaf still operating; Karachi and Kabul resumed in October 2026
- A330 on the longer routes
What is not
- Worst delay record among Iranian carriers in every published report
- No EU flights since the 2024 sanctions
Tips
- Do not book a tight onward connection in Istanbul on Iran Air
- Buy the system fare rather than a charter seat if you may need to cancel
