Getting there

The airport is about 30 to 40 km south of the city. Metro Line 1 has an airport branch, but trains run only every 70 to 80 minutes and the ride takes about an hour. Airport taxis have a posted ceiling fare (900,000 toman in 1402, higher now) and Snapp or Tapsi work if you have a local SIM.

Terminal and queues

Three terminals: Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the newer Salam terminal. Salam opened for pilgrim flights but now also handles regular international flights, so check your ticket for the terminal. Expect slow passport and security lines at peak times.

Connections and transit

IKA is mostly a point-to-point airport. Foreign hubs such as Doha, Istanbul and Muscat carry most of the onward connections; there is little true transit traffic through Tehran.

Food, rest, SIM, prayer room

Prayer rooms, cafés and exchange counters exist in all terminals. The travel currency (arz-e mosaferati) quota is now booked under a single Imam Khomeini Airport option in the system, whichever terminal you fly from.

Delays and cancellations

Iranian carriers have high delay rates (40 to 56 percent of domestic flights in recent CAO monthly reports), and the 2026 airspace closures hit international schedules hard. Build in a buffer for connections abroad.
