What we could not confirm
- Current bus line number and fares
- Which international routes are running this season
Scores
- Getting there
- About 10 km and 20 minutes from the shrine area. Mashhad Metro Line 1 has an airport station, bus 77 runs from 15 Khordad square, and shared taxis leave from Hafez, 15 Khordad and the bus terminal.
- Terminal and queues
- Terminal 1 handles domestic flights and Terminal 3 serves international arrivals and pilgrims. Pilgrimage peaks (Nowruz, Arbaeen, religious holidays) mean long lines.
- Connections and transit
- Second-busiest airport in Iran with flights to most cities, plus Najaf, Muscat, Istanbul and Gulf routes depending on the season and the political situation.
- Food, rest, SIM, prayer room
- Prayer rooms, food courts and exchange counters are available. Rest areas are limited for the volume of pilgrims.
- Delays and cancellations
- Same Iranian carriers, same delay pattern as Tehran; charter pilgrimage flights are the least reliable.
What is good
- Close to the city with metro, bus and shared taxi
- Many daily flights to Tehran
What is not
- Crowds during pilgrimage seasons
- Charter flights often slip
Tips
- Check metro timetables on the station boards; airport trains are less frequent than the city line
- Confirm Terminal 1 versus Terminal 3 on your ticket
