Staying in Muscat

Muscat is the Gulf alternative now that the UAE is closed or high-risk for Iranian passports, but Oman's own entry rule for Iranians is contested: some sources say 14 days visa-free with a hotel booking, insurance and return ticket, others say an ROP e-visa is required. Iranian sellers have Tehran–Muscat flight pages; no Muscat hotel page was verified.

What we could not confirm

  • Whether Iranians qualify for Oman's 14-day visa-free entry or need an e-visa, and the e-visa fee, are unresolved.
  • No Muscat hotel seller page, nightly rate or neighbourhood guidance was found.

A hotel booking is one of the documents cited for visa-free entry, so book before you fly. Snapptrip has an MCT international route page; no Iranian seller's Muscat hotel page was verified.

Tips

  • Oman announced a new free 14-day tourist visa on 3 Aug 2026 (Official Gazette 1659) for nationalities 'designated by the authority'; the announcement does not name Iran, so do not assume it applies.
  • The alternative is the ROP e-visa at evisa.rop.gov.om, reported at about $20 for 30 days (fee unverified).
  • The 1405 exit tax applies (900,000 toman for the first trip of the year).
