Staying in Tehran

Tehran is where most domestic trips begin: Mehrabad (THR) for domestic flights, Imam Khomeini (IKA) for international ones, and the South Terminal for long-distance buses. Visitors are mostly here for work, family or a stopover before Mashhad, the Caspian coast or a flight abroad, so hotels and hotel apartments near where you need to be matter more than a holiday district.

What we could not confirm

  • The reported 17% fall in Nowruz 1405 travel (from about 36.27 million trips) is not in the Borna article.
  • The figure of 1,467 licensed eco-lodges could not be sourced; the cited article is from 2017 and gives 530 units.
  • The roughly 50-day closure of Mehrabad after the war began (reopening 2 Ordibehesht 1405) was not confirmed from a primary source.

Kinds of stay

  • Hotel

Iran Hotel Online lists 189 Tehran hotels; Alibaba, Eghamat24, Snapptrip and Flytoday all have a Tehran hotel page.

  • Apartment

Hotel apartments are sold alongside hotels on Iranian sellers (Hotelyar lists about 1,500 hotels and hotel apartments nationwide); useful for families and longer work stays.

Tips

  • For Nowruz, Tehran empties towards the Caspian coast: Mazandaran (4.46 million trips) and Gilan (about 3.2 million) led Nowruz 1405, and hotel occupancy was only about 4%; most people stayed with relatives, in eco-lodges or in private homes. Villa and eco-lodge sellers (Jabama, Shab, Otaghak, Jajiga) cover those provinces, so book the north early.
  • Jajiga has ready-made northern searches (/s/shomal/pool) and Shab lists all eco-lodges at /all-boomgardi; Jabama filters villas with /all?types=villa.
  • Both Tehran airports stopped flights for about 24 hours on 15–16 Tir 1405 for the leader's funeral; one-off national events can halt all Tehran flights at short notice, so check your flight's status the day before.
  • Long-distance buses to Mashhad leave from the South Terminal; Flytoday's blog has a Tehran bus-terminal guide dated 1405/08/11.
  • Flytoday, Jabama, Snapptrip, Alibaba and Iran Hotel Online all promote installment (اقساطی) booking; it is a normal option, not a special offer.
