How to apply: Complete the application on france-visas.gouv.fr, book a VFS Global Tehran appointment, attend with passport, documents and insurance to give fingerprints and pay, then collect the passport when France-Visas notifies you.
Official pageConditions
- Iran is on the EU Annex I visa list, so a short-stay Schengen visa is needed before travel; the French foreign ministry says a visa is required unless a waiver applies, and no waiver covers Iranian ordinary passports.
- Apply on the France-Visas portal, then submit the file in person at VFS Global in Tehran (Mega Pars) with an appointment booked on visa.vfsglobal.com/irn/fr/fra; the French embassy in Tehran alone decides on the visa.
- The embassy notice (updated 3 September 2026) says applications through VFS reopened on 14 June 2026 after a pause; only VFS is authorised to book appointments and take files, beware of intermediaries.
- You can apply up to 6 months before departure; fingerprints and a photo are taken at the appointment unless given for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months.
- EU rule for processing: normally 15 calendar days, up to 45 days; the embassy warns that appointment and processing times in Tehran are longer in busy periods.
- Fee 90 EUR per adult (EU standard rate) plus the VFS service fee; the fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.
Plan the trip
Before you book
- Your passport should be valid for at least six months after the trip; many borders refuse less.
- Exit tax is paid before leaving Iran; the amount depends on how many trips you made this year.
- Iranian bank cards do not work abroad: plan cash or a card from outside Iran.
