Visa and entry
Iraq: entry rules for Iranians
VerifyPopular destination
Our sources disagree or are not official: confirm with the embassy before booking.
Wikipedia lists 30 days visa-free (15 days in the Kurdistan Region), but 2025–2026 sources conflict and Arbaeen pilgrims have historically needed a visa.

What we could not confirm
- No official Iraqi source was found. Wikipedia is internally inconsistent: 30 days visa-free in the main table (15 in Kurdistan), but a 30-day eVisa for Iraqi Kurdistan in a later section.
- Whether a paid visa is needed outside Arbaeen, and the current fee, are open.
- The Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaymaniyah) needs its own check: 15 days visa-free versus a 30-day eVisa.
At a glance
- Maximum stay
- up to 30 days
- Fee
- No fee reported
How to apply: Check the current rule before booking; older reports mention an Iraqi embassy visa fee of about $30–40.
Conditions
- Make sure your Iraqi entry stamp is recorded; if not, ask the Iraqi passport police on the spot (Iranian passport police advice, Tir 1405).
Plan the trip
Before you book
- Your passport should be valid for at least six months after the trip; many borders refuse less.
- Exit tax is paid before leaving Iran; the amount depends on how many trips you made this year.
- Iranian bank cards do not work abroad: plan cash or a card from outside Iran.
