What we could not confirm
- Whether Iranians currently get a visa on arrival or must apply online
- Airport-level on-time percentage
Scores
- Getting there
- The Doha Metro Red Line has a station at Terminal 1: QAR 2 to Msheireb in about 25 to 35 minutes. Taxis and Karwa buses are also outside arrivals. Iranians need a visa to leave the airport; sources conflict on whether it is on arrival or an online eVisa via Hayya, so check before you book.
- Terminal and queues
- A single, modern terminal; Qatar Airways and the Iranian carriers all use it. Transfers are signposted and fast, though walks to the far concourses are long.
- Connections and transit
- No visa is needed to stay airside, and Qatar Airways connects Tehran, Mashhad and Shiraz to Asia, Europe and Africa on one ticket. Since the UAE closed to Iranians, Doha is the main Gulf hub.
- Food, rest, SIM, prayer room
- Prayer rooms on every concourse, halal food everywhere, quiet rooms, the Orchard garden, showers and SIM counters (Ooredoo, Vodafone). Iranian cards do not work; bring dollars or euros.
- Delays and cancellations
- Qatar Airways was Cirium's Platinum airline for 2025, which reflects well on its home hub. The airport itself was not ranked in the published lists.
What is good
- Smooth one-ticket connections worldwide
- Metro to the city for QAR 2
- Excellent prayer and rest facilities
What is not
- Visa rules for Iranians are unclear
- Long walks and expensive food
Tips
- For layovers over 8 hours ask Qatar Airways about the transit hotel or city tour, but confirm the visa rule for Iranian passports first
- Stay airside unless you have a visa in hand
