What we could not confirm
- Whether Mahan Air still flies Tehran to Kuala Lumpur
- MDAC requirement details for Iranian passports
Scores
- Getting there
- Iranians get 30 days visa-free since September 2025 (up from 14). KLIA Ekspres to KL Sentral takes 28 minutes for RM55 (RM65 from January 2027); buses to KL Sentral cost about RM15 and Grab about RM70 to RM100. Cards from Iran do not work; change dollars at the airport.
- Terminal and queues
- Terminal 1 serves full-service airlines (Qatar, Turkish, Oman Air, Malaysia Airlines) and Terminal 2 serves AirAsia; the two are linked by train. Immigration lines can be long when several wide-bodies land together.
- Connections and transit
- A good hub for South-East Asia and Australia on Malaysia Airlines or AirAsia. From Iran you reach KL via Doha, Istanbul or Muscat; the direct Mahan Air route is not currently confirmed.
- Food, rest, SIM, prayer room
- Malaysia is a Muslim-majority country: surau (prayer rooms) on every level, halal food everywhere, SIM kiosks (Celcom, Maxis, Digi) and a transit hotel in Terminal 1.
- Delays and cancellations
- Not in Cirium's published 2025 top lists; afternoon storms cause regular short delays. Treated as average.
What is good

What is not

Tips
- Fill in the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card online within 3 days before landing
- KLIA Transit is the same price but slower; take Ekspres unless you need an intermediate stop
