What we could not confirm
- Current visa rule for Iranians (waiver versus eVisa)
- Current Iranian carriers and frequencies
- On-time data
Scores
- Getting there
- Mwasalat buses to Ruwi cost about 1 rial and take 35 to 60 minutes; official taxis are 6 to 12 rial to the centre. Iranians have needed either a 14-day visa waiver (2021 embassy notice) or a 20-dollar eVisa (2026 aggregator); the rule is unclear, so check with the Omani embassy.
- Terminal and queues
- A modern single terminal opened in 2018. Queues are short and signage is clear.
- Connections and transit
- Oman Air and SalamAir connect to India, East Africa and some European cities, and Muscat has become a workaround hub for Iranians since the UAE ban. Kish Air, Qeshm Air and Iranian carriers fly here from Tehran, Shiraz, Kish and Bandar Abbas.
- Food, rest, SIM, prayer room
- Prayer rooms, halal food, Omantel and Ooredoo kiosks in arrivals (about 5 rial for 10 GB), lounges and a transit hotel. Iranian cards do not work; bring dollars.
- Delays and cancellations
- No airport ranking found; Oman Air is generally reliable and Iranian carriers less so. Treated as average.
What is good
- Friendly to Iranian passports and a calm, modern terminal
- Useful alternative hub since Dubai closed
What is not
- Visa rule for Iranians keeps changing
- Fewer onward routes than Doha or Istanbul
Tips
- Confirm the visa rule with the Omani embassy in Tehran before paying for a ticket
- Use the Mwasalat app for bus times; night arrivals need a taxi
